Fly ID and Zephyr Beacon update available: Get remote dual identification (FR/EU)
UPDATE FLY ID / ZEPHYR BEACON
DUAL REMOTE IDENTIFICATION (FR/EU) : ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
Since 1 January 2024, direct remote identification systems have been mandatory in Europe, in accordance with European regulations (EN 4709-002) published by the EASA. However, France also has its own specific regulations. Since 2019, the French aviation authority (DGAC) has required all professional remote pilots with a drone weighing more than 800 grams to be equipped with a remote electronic reporting system (FR).
To make sure you’re flying legally, Dronavia is offering French and European remote pilots the chance to update their Fly ID or Zephyr Beacon system with both a remote electronic reporting system (FR) and a remote direct identification system (EU).
what are the 2 types of remote identification?
The remote electronic reporting system (FR) specific to France must be capable of broadcasting the following list of parameters:
- the manufacturer’s trigram (defined by the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition)
- the model of the drone or reporting system (if not integrated)
- the serial number of the drone or reporting system (if not integrated)
- the position of the UAV (Latitude, Longitude in WGS84 and vertical position)
- the position of the take-off point (Latitude, Longitude in WGS84)
- Course (heading in °) and ground speed (m/s)
Direct remote identification (EU) specific to Europe must be able to broadcast the following list of parameters:
- The drone operator’s registration number (to be entered by the operator directly in the system interface)
- The serial number of the identification system (a unique serial number that complies with the ANSI/CTA-2063 standard and cannot be changed)
- The position of the drone in relation to its take-off point (distance and height in relation to this point
- Course (heading in °) and ground speed (m/s)
- The position of the pilot or the take-off point (Latitude, Longitude in WGS84)
the differences
between the 2 types of identification
There are several slight differences between remote electronic reporting (FR), which is specific to France, and direct remote identification (EU), which is specific to Europe:
Even if the parameters seem similar, they differ in several subtle aspects, such as the position of the take-off point, the position of the pilot or even the manufacturer’s trigram.
Under what conditions should I fly with dual remote identification?
For safety reasons, the requirements applicable in France will continue to apply under the new drone legislation in Europe. This is why class C1 / C2 / C3 drones weighing more than 800 grams must, as the regulations currently stand, simultaneously emit a direct remote identification (EU) and a remote electronic signal (FR).
In addition, all non-class UAVs operating under national scenarios S1, S2 and S3 must be equipped with remote direct identification (EU) and remote electronic reporting (FR).
Dronavia has therefore decided to offer its French customers the opportunity to update their Fly ID and Zephyr Beacon systems and benefit from a dual signal that complies with French and European standards during their flights.
